Hi Barbara

Thank you - the information you have listed basically matches with what I have figured out, but was hoping for a baptism for proper "proof"....alas, seems not to be the case !!  Its like a detective story isn't it !!!  I think that Thomas and Agnes Johnson possibly had 7 children in total with Nichol who married Elspeth Tait as the eldest.

Thanks also for the stone in Greenlaw, whilst I had the burial inscription for James and Alison, I didn't have the bit about Nicol or Janet !!!

Cheers

I think him signing the death record of his father is proof enough that he is the son of Thomas, Victoria.  Frustrating not to get a baptism but naming patterns and location are all working for you.

In Greenlaw there are actually 3 graves right beside each other so probably all related.

The third one is Nichol Weatherston, Marchmont, West Lodge his son Nichol Millwright Shotleygrove, Co of Durham 29.12.1860 28 years.  He d. 25.8.1871 78 yrs.  Janet Cockburn his widow 19.4.1894 84 yrs.  Agnes 2.12.1934 85 yrs. Wm.  12.7.1924 81 yrs.

All the same family and relations to your Nichol.  .
