Just looked at the libraries northern Ireland site and while you can get the Derry journal it seems it is only available from 2009 online- However there is also an academic sign in to Nexus Lexus (I  don't know this system) so maybe you should e-mail the library and check if you  need different sign in details before you can access the archived newspapers.

Hi,

Central Library in Derry has no online newspapers relating to what years you are seeking.  They do have microfilms for the Derry Journal, Derry Standard, Londonderry Sentinel and Irish News.

Thank you to every one for their help, greatly appreciated.

DoireM, I didn't have a specific date in mind, I was hoping to look for any Ross family from the Enagh Lough area from 1900 to 1955, unfortunately that is too big a time frame to request help from someone to have a look. If you were going back, one date that comes to mind is between 1949 july when my great grandfather passed away and 1951 jan when my great great grandfather passed away. They were called James Ross and Thomas Ross respectively.

Many thanks for any help you can give me, living in Scotland makes things slightly harder.

Regards
Glasgow: ROSS, WRIGHT, MURRAY, FALCONER
Derry: ROSS, ADAIR, COLHOUN, JOHNSTON, THOMPSON, TAIT, LOWTHER, HUSTON
Donegal: BROWN, McCLAY, GALLAGHER, MEHAFFEY (McHAFFEY), OGILBY

Hello,

I checked the Derry Journal and Londonderry Sentinel for July 1949 and January 1951.  Sorry no death records found in these newspapers.

Thank you for that DoireM,

That's a shame, but it was a long shot. They were quite a rural farming family and so far I've found nothing about them in newspapers yet, so it doesn't surprise me.

Thanks again!

To My-Irish Family are you still there?

A friend in Ireland just sent me a snippet from the Londonderry Sentinel dated 1867 and I wondered if I could access the archives online myself which this series of posts has answered. (Not from NZ).

However I was struck by the list of names along with Ross in your family. My Dougherty family were from Coolkeeragh which is next door to Enagh Lough. One daughter Catherine married John Lowther. The Colhouns are also related to the Doughertys though I haven't pinned down exactly how.

Thomas Thompson was the Presbyterian Minister at Glendermott during some of the time I am interested in.

THOMAS THOMPSON; born Agivey, Garvagh, 17th May, 1841; brought up in connection with the congregation of Aghadoey; Education, M.C.D.; General Certificate 1868; licensed Coleraine Presbytery 1870; ordained 1st Glendermott 16th January, 1872; married (1) 1872 daughter of William Thompson, Gortin, Aghadoey; retired 1910. Died 1st June, 1916.

Cheers

Linda (NZ).

Rev. Thompson was born at Glasgort, Agivey (Agivey isn't in Garvagh). Are you researching the The Thompson family or just mentioning him because of the Glendermott connection?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
