Hi
Ive just found my great geat aunt a Minnie Ward down in the 1891 census as being a inspector of policeman, she was born about 1864, does sound a bit strange, being a woman.

Can you post the census reference so we can look at the image or give us details of her birthplace and where she was living in 1891

If its this census
RG12 2363 56 11

then you must be looking at a mistranscription -as on the image she is a "Jeweller's polisher" !!!

Posted on Warwickshire board but she was living in Staffordshire - no wonder I couldn't find her in 1891 in Warwickshire

I found 3 in total around that age. Born 1863, 1864, 1865. None with any occupation shown.

Have now found the one that Suzard referred to with the Jeweller's polisher. Can see how it could have been a bad guess from the transcriber. The J could have been an I. Poli...... easily turned from polisher to policeman.
