Hi Lance,

I was in touch with you before through ancestry. I thought my husband's Dublin Justins were related to the Laois Justins, so way back I did some work on them, but there was no connection, so I'm afraid that I deleted the research.

I know there are a lot of people on ancestry researching the Justin / Juston / Jestin etc surname in Laois.

The Richard Justin that they all seem to be researching all seem to talking about Mountmellick and environs of Laois.

In saying that there were branches in Mountrath, Borris in Ossary and Derryguile also that I am aware of.

If memory serves me right I had made a presumption that this was the father of Richard and Hannah who went to Dublin.

I had nothing to back this up other than a hunch and wishful thinking.

Hi Tara,

The 1901 census records you have shown is the family I am trying to link  Richard and Hannah Justin back to.
The father is Richard Justin and his wife was called Sarah. They lived in Clonanny, Queens Co.
if we can prove the connection is correct then the Dublin Justin's are related to the Justin's from Clonanny, which is my line.

Hi Lance,

Just remember that there were 2 Justin families in Dublin, mine were the weavers who were defo not from Laois, and then there is Richard's who married Elizabeth Skipp whom it certainly looks like there may be a connection to the Clonanny family. The names certainly seem to follow the pattern.

BTW Have you ever come across a Sarah Justin, daughter of a William Justin labourer. She was born about 1874 in Laois. I know she went to England and married a Charles Wareing and I have her documented from there on but just trying to get her family in Laois in proving impossible.

Tara

Hi Tara,

Do you have the birth Cert for Sarah Justin, daughter of William.
If I know the village in Laois they came from, I can possibly match them. Were they C of I.
It is worth spending a few euros with GRO.

Hi Lance,

No, that's the problem, we have never been able to track a birth cert for her or a baptism records through ifhf.

The name William came from her marriage cert.

Yes, they were COI.

Tara, I cannot find any records of Hannah (nee Justin) and Richard Thompson going back to Mountrath and having 2 children, Sarah & Edward.
Thought they would turn up in 1901 census.

I found them on the free index of ifhf.

There is a big gap between when they married and had children, and the 1901 census, so they could have passed away or emmigrated.
