Thompson & Justin families, Laois
« on: Sunday 24 June 12 11:16 BST (UK) »
I have the marriage of Richard Thompson to Hannah Justin in Dublin, 1897, C of I.
I am trying to trace their families, prior to their marriage in Dublin. Both were born in Queens (Laois).
Richard was born in Clonan, Mountrath, his father was called Edward, a farmer.
Hannah's father was called Richard, also a farmer. Her brother, who also called Richard and lived in Dublin, with his sister, prior to her marriage. Susan A Justin is shown as a witness to Hannah's wedding.
I cannot find Hannah and Richard Thompson in the 1901, or 1911 censuses and have no firm birth dates to work from.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you certain about this date ?

The only marriage I can find in Dublin for the name Hannah Justin is in 1879...

found it - it was 1879...

Marriage of Richard Thompson & Hannah Justin - 4 December 1879

for reference the cert states current residences, not necessarily that same as place of birth. Hannah's residence was 5 McMahon Street

Hi Shane,
I only know that Hannah Justin was living at 5,Mc.Mahon Street, Dublin when she married. The address for Richard is given as Clonan, Mountrath, Laois.
I do not know if they had children. If I could find a birth date for Hannah I could get a birth certificate from GRO, which would take me back to her father, Richard Justin. Cannot find any record of them emigrating.

Hi Shane / Lance

Yes 1879 is the correct date when Hannah got married

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/0def300577913

She was born well before 1864 so you won't get a birt cert for her

I was researching this family before and I never found any further trace of them.

some of Hannah's family appear in Thom's directories at that address..

1877 - Mr. Richard Justin
1879 - Mrs. Elizabeth Justin
1884 - Mrs. Elizabeth Justin
1894 - Mr. Richard Justin

By 1904 the occupant has changed to a Mr. Herbert Curham.

I dont see any listing for McMahon street before 1877..

Hi Shane & Tara,

Thanks for the info. Hannah was living with her brother and his wife Elizabeth (nee Skipp).
I was trying to go back to Queens to find out where Hannah and her brother had been born. If I could find the town/village then I could see if I could look at the C of I records in Dublin. Hannah brother was born 1844/1845.
Tara, did you find any information on the Justin line.
