*** Death certificate - completed ***
« on: Monday 25 June 12 14:22 BST (UK) »
I don't know if it possible to order death certificates in Canada like you can in England - or in Scotland, it is possible to download them from the ScotlandsPeople web site.

I would love to be able to read the death certificate of my great uncle Murdoch Mckenzie.

Murdoch was also known as Murdo, and sometimes Mckenzie was spelt Mackenzie, but as far as I know he died on 10 October 1961 in Calgary, Alberta.

His spouse, Isabella Kemp, may well have been named on the certificate - but I think they were divorced at some point.

Murdoch was born on 08 August 1875 in Rireabhach, Loch Broom, Scotland and emigrated to Canada in 1914 as a school teacher.
Researching the names Mckenzie / Mackenzie from Ross and Cromarty especially Scoraig and Rherivach.

The names Fraser, MacGillivary and Grant from Daviot & Dunlichity.

The name of Fraser from Lanarkshire.

The name of Bell from Northumberland.

The name Chilla / Chylla / Chyla from Poland.

I don't know about Albertan death certs, but I have had many from British Columbia. This is their website http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-1657967/gbsearch/Deaths

Hopefully someone will be along soon who knows more.

Maybe the title of this thread should mention Alberta?

Have you read the Alberta Resources page?

This site from Service Alberta explains who is eligible to order BMDs.  Canada's vital statistics, unlike other countries, are protected under privacy laws.  Generally births must be over 100 years, marriages 75 and deaths 50 but that varies from province to province as there is no central registry of BMDs for Canada - it is regulated by each province.

That said you might find an obituary for him from the Calgary newspaper.

This link does offer a pay service for obituaries.  They used to be $5.00 an obituary but the price might have gone up.

A death in Oct 1961 is more than 50 years ago and you should therefore be able to obtain the cert?
