Hull Northern Cemetery, Chanterlands Avenue
« on: Wednesday 27 June 12 14:45 BST (UK) »
My grandparents are buried in Grave No 18 Compartment 216, an unmarked grave. I visited there long before I started my family history and although I took photo's, I have since lost them.
If anyone is visiting Northern Cemetery would you be kind enough to take some photo's of this spot? All I remember is that it is close by to a large tree.
Many thanks
Lottee

Hi lottee

If you contact Northern Cemetery, they will email you a map of the area in question and maybe some more details from the burial register.  If you want to visit, they will also help you to locate the grave, especially if it is a "communal/common/paupers grave".

For anyone else wanting relevant I think all of Hull's Registers (completed registers) have now been deposited at Hull History Centre.

Hi Bendywendy
Thanks for replying. I will conact them for a map then at least if someone is able to get there they will know its location. I went there some years ago with my parents, took photo's and lost them. At the time it was just annoying but now I have done our family history and found out an enormous amount of info about him, I would like to add a photo of their buriel ground.
I'm fine busy as ever.
Hope you are well
Lottee

Looking at that map and scale (compared with the nearby house footprints) you have featured, I think you will find this Plan is only the Compartments, or Sections, in the Northern Cemetery.

You will need a second Plan of the particular Compartment (some Cemeteries call this a Section) to find an unmarked grave.

Some Monumental Masons put the Section (at some Cemeteries sometimes lettering), or Compartment and also the Grave number near the base of a Headstone, so you might be able to work out an unmarked grave location, from how the surviving headstones are numbered and set out, nearby.

It it survives a Cemetery Section usually has a Marker to one corner, usually number/s or letter/s.

Mark

Did you ever get a picture of the grave ? We are going to a nearby grave this week. I realise your post is from 2012 but would be happy to help. If you would like us to take a photo let me know. Best wishes Julie

I visited the cemetery yesterday and think that I have some photos of the area.  I found a grave marked   No. 17 Compartment 216, so I took pictures of the surrounding area.  No problem if you have already had your request sorted out, I realise that your post was from some time ago!

Hello Julie
My apologies for not replying to your offer, that was very kind of you.  I was prompt by a message from another kind person yesterday which is when I realised I had missed yours.
If ever I can help with your tree please ask.
Best wishes
Lottee
