The forces-war-records website lists 28 Thomas Turners serving in the Napoleonic period - mostly in the Navy, but also army - it would cost money to view the details.

findmypast has a similar number (also viewable by payment) including one born in Brigg, Lincolnshire.

the familyrelatives website also has army lists from the period.

I would recommend that you post a message in the armed forces section of Rootschat (from the homepage scroll down to "some special interests" then click on "Armed Forces".  There you could find people with access to records who would do lookups.

Good hunting!
Philip

Thanks for your reply.

I will give that a try. I think the Brigg one is quite likely.
Thomas Turner has a gravestone in Worlaby with the battles he took part in. For a man who was a ag. lab I was very surprised to find it.

Having a gravestone is remarkable - clearly Thomas Turner must have been highly respected in his community.  The list of battles should help to identify the regiment he served in (it may not have been a local regiment) and ensure you get the right Thomas.  If you include the details in your next post it would aid the research.

I am quite envious of you having an ancestor like Thomas Turner!

All the best
Philip

Thanks for your thoughts.

I have googled him this week and found a couple of online trees in which he features. Although one of them is wrong as his eldest son has been omitted; quite a blow as he was the next gt. grandfather down in my line and without him I wouldn`t be here !!!

I just came across this old thread and remembered I was going to share this, Thomas Turner`s MI

To the memory of Thomas Turner who died October 6 in 1874.  Aged 84 years.  He served his country with distinction in the Peninsular War and in Egypt.  Was twice wounded and returned to his native village of Worlaby where for many years he was esteemed for an upright and industrious man.

Soldier of Christ well done.
Rest from thy employ.
The battles fought the victor won.
Enter thy masters joy.

In the Parish Register it says that he fought at Albuara and Vittorio both 1812
