The spelling could be either Flannelly or Flannery... I've just found some graves in Lacken Old cemetery for the name Flannelly... so it still could be either

it might be worth sending off for a birth certs for one of Patrick and Mary's children to double check Mary's maiden name

I was going to add that there are Flannellys from Lacken - and you found some :). I have seen these transcribed as Flannery occasionally.

There is this death record for Bridget Pitchette with parents Michael Preston and Margaret Levelle (probably Lavelle) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N48J-4CQ

Good idea.  Hopefully, it would solve the spelling issue.

According to his WWI draft card dated 12 Sept 1912, Michael Francis Preston was born 25 April 1882... he must have added the Francis himself as its not on birth registration.
Address at the time 15 Rockland St Roxbury Mass, next of kin is his mother Mary Preston living at the same address. He was a grocery clerk.

He may have taken it as his confirmation name.  It makes him easier to track.  I remember my grandmother's brother and sisters.  Too bad I wasn't interested in family history at the time.
