John Seadaway, Brecknockshire Militia
« on: Monday 02 July 12 20:09 BST (UK) »
When John Seadaway married Elizabeth Davies at St Thomas, Haverdfordwest in 1780, he was with the Brecknockshire Militia and quartered in the town.

Can anyone advise how to research him further?  Would he have been from Brecknockshire or could anyone join a local militia?  I'm assuming this was the army?

Will there be a record of where the militia was stationed so I can try to find out what happened to him?

I am researching Seedaway/Sidaway in Bristol, one of whom said he came from St John, Brecon.   I have yet to find any baptisms or other links to the name in Breconshire.

Many thanks

this is a link to the info provided by the county record office on militia musters of Breconshire and gives a bit of background.

So looks like info would be at the National Archives, but there's a disk available for the muster of 1781-2. It's on at least one of the major sites that sell parish records and the like.

Thank you Osprey,

I have found the CD on line and sent off my order.  Looks like it could be money well spent as the muster dates covered are a good match with the marriage.

The record office info sheet answers my general questions. Much appreciated.
