Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Hi,  thank you for your reply.

To be honest, I am clutching at straws as I have gone on info from the family who say Norman's father was of Irish decent.

The one attachment is of info I received from a lady who kindly assisted me on one of the genealogy sites that I am on, I am in New Zealand and unable to get to Pretoria despite having asked family members to help me with this.

Also because my grandfather was born in Nairobi (see marriage certificate) and given the article in the government Gazette about George Clement Thomas Harvey, I put them together with 10-year-old Thomas as his father was George.  Possibly not a great assumption on my part but one of Norman's daughters had the middle name Doreen and apparently, Norman also had a sister called Anne, his one daughter is also Anne.  There was a death/ will notice which mentioned Thomas' death  in Johannesburg and mentions Doreen (nee Searle) Harvey as his surviving spouse

I could be wrong, but I have been trolling ship manifests to see if Thomas or George whichever name he went by, left the UK namely Ireland to go to Kenya (apparently many people left the UK for Kenya at that time) Sadly the Kenyan consulate has been VERY unhelpful as we have tried numerous times to request copies of my grandfather's birth certificate.

I called the London office and Kenyan offices and was told "we cannot help because they had no computers in those days", then they cut me off.  (more than 5 times) I was hoping his parents had registered him in the country of their birth too.

My mother was born in SA - British mother and Finnish father and they both registered her birth in their respective countries and she was born a year before my father.

I digress.  This is the info I have and it is not much so I may be worrying you for nothing and for that I apologise.  If you are able to assist in any way, I would be most grateful - thank you for your time xx

Don't think the dates make sense  ???

Your father born 1951
His father (Norman) born c1926
His father George Clement Thomas Harvey

George Thomas Harvey, Dublin, is age 10 in 1911 census which would mean that he's unlikely to have been married and having children c1926

Thank you for your reply again.

Are you able to see their birth country/regions? Or possibly direct me so that I can search?
Thank you

There were Harveys living beside me in Omagh for several years and although they moved they still live in Omagh, I was speaking to one of them recently called Kenneth Harvey.

Hi, to date I have not had any connections for Harvey in USA (at least not from what I have traced)

With regard to this: Plot thickens-

20 Apr.1955 "Kenya Castle" arrived London from Mombassa
George Harvey born 4/9/99 civil servant resides Kenya
Doreen Harvey born 18/11/10 housewife
daughter * [details not given since she could be alive]

Online tree has-
George Clement Thomas Harvey born 4 Sept.1899 Kenya (fits with above passenger record)
parents- George Morgan Harvey (1878-1924) & Catherine Elizabeth van den Heever

I have hit a brick wall, I have searched on one of the Irish Ancestors sites as well as a couple of South African ones but nothing at the moment, however, I have asked my sisters to check from their side (UK) and see if they can come up with any ties.  If anyone discovers anything else, I would be most grateful if you let me know.  Thank you all so much for your help xx
