Susan LACE; Maggie LACE; William LACE IOM
« on: Wednesday 04 July 12 06:24 BST (UK) »
Susan and Maggie Lace left Douglas Industrial Home located in the Isle of Man after their father (Thomas Lace) died in the Isle of Man (IOM). Susan dob is 1873 and Maggie dob is 1877, both born Douglas IOM.  They were part of the Quarrier party that left from Glaskow on the Buenos Aryean in 1886.  These sisters sent letter from Canada asking to send their brother William T. (Willie) Lace to Canada.  He arrived in 1887 on the Siberian and arrived in 4/11/1887.  Willie was also from IOM Douglas Industrial Home as part of Quarrier party at age 5 (DOB 1882).  I am trying to find out where they arrived (believe Belleville??) and where they ended up.  Any advice?

I have a note re Susan : Emigrated to Canada. Sailed from Glasgow 'Allan Line'. As per Daily Journal Minutes 13 May 1886 Age 14 at emigration. Further entry reads 20 Oct 1892 Came home from Canada a month ago and got married today to William Reid and now resides in Church St - the person who gave me the note did not know whether this was Church St in Peel, in Douglas or even on IoM
any thing with a Manx Connection

Awe this is too bad...had we had this on the Canada board we could have tried to complete the request. I'll add some pertinent information so that all others searching might find this thread.

If it is true the girls had their brother sent to Canada, they must have been happy with their new homes...Or perhaps they thought he'd end up living with one of them....imm. March 30 1887, he is older than five  /Quarrier’s Orphan Homes of Scotland  117 boys
Mrs. Bilbrough Wallace  Destination: Marchmont Home, Belleville, Ontario
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01f6l/

1891 census Leeds and Grenville North, Oxford Ontario
Here is Margaret Lace, says age 15 as "adopted" although this was not always the case, with John  & Lydia Pearson   http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1891/jpg/30953_148151-00516.jpg

William is already indentured, working for Robert &  Doranda Anderson/ Addington Camden
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1891/jpg/30953_148124-00455.jpg

So is Elizabeth from the christening now Margaret, and Margaret now Susan?

I can't find Susan, or any idividual Lace females in 1891...and she'd headed home soon...

Don't see them after this...did they all head back to Scotland?

Yes, the birth of Mary Gertrude Mcgregor June 30 1897 confirms it is Maggie E.
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FMXM-97D
Archibald Campbell Mcgregor, Aug 7th 1904 ( uses Maggie Elizabeth )
Rosella Burnies Mcgregor  April 30 1910 (uses Mary Elizabeth)

Just found the three on the new Rootschat database...Must admit I did not get it at first...was trying to hit the surname for information, not the magnifying glass. I guess we all understand different icons.
