Hayes Family in Listowel
« on: Wednesday 11 July 12 21:06 BST (UK) »
Looking for some information on Patrick Charles Hayes b.1857 and his parents Charles Hayes & (not sure of his mother).  I know they are buried in the Galey Cemetary and I would like to know for sure who his parents are and if he had any siblings.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there

I presume he married ! Do you know how to and where as his marriage cert would be the best place to start.

Do you have the family on the census ?

Tara

Hi Tara, I can't seem to go back any farther on PC Hayes.  I am not even sure if his father's name is Charles! So I'm not sure about the cencus?

PC Hayes emigrated to Alberta, Canada but returned to Ireland in 1920 or so.  I know he passed away in 1930 and is buried with his parents.

That's about all the info I have on him.  I have been tracking his movements around Canada and the US, but I would like to know about his parents/siblings.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Karen

Tara, he was married in 1886 in Minnesota, USA.  I have a record of the marriage, but not a copy of the Cert.

He emmigrated to the USA in approx. 1884.  There were alot of Patrick Hayes apparently, so I'm not 100% sure of his arrival.  He usually went by the name Patrick C Hayes or PC Hayes in most of the records I have found.

We have also heard that his mother's name was Bridget Promety.  I have been unable to find anyone with that surname?

Did you get his death cert?-  There is not a lot of information on death certs but it  may give some clues as  it gives residence at time of death and sometimes -not always - the informant may be a family member.
There is an entry in the civil registration index for the death of a Patrick Charles Hayes Listowel District 1930 Quarter Oct-Dec vol 5 page 246.
You can order a cert (better to order a photocopy of the entry as it has the same information as a cert and costs less)  by downloading an application form at www.groireland.ie.

Thanks Annclare, I have a copy of the Register of Burial for a Patrick Hayes in Listowel Dec.10,1930.  It only contains the name, residence and date of death/burial.  Is this the same document?

Just googled Galey cemetery and there is a book in Tralee Library published in 2008 that gives the graveyard inscriptions for Galey- its not online as far as I know but perhaps you could get someone to do a look up for you.
