A lot of farms were rented and so families may not be connected. I had a look at the will and also the details for Lewis Griffith. It sounds as though he was renting before buying his own farm of Maes y Pandy (Maesypandy). My family had links to a farm of the same name but it turned out to be a different place.
These are some notes from the will of William Richard, followed by details for Lewis:-

William Richard buried in Llanymawddwy on 7th March 1827 age 86
Elizabeth Richard buried in Mallwyd on 13th Jan 1794
Lewis Griffith son of Robert Griffith and Mary baptised 29th Feb 1796 in Llanymawddwy
He married Jane Jones in Mallwyd on 20th April 1826. Witnesses - Robert Griffith and Lewis Jones, both of whom signed their own names. Lewis and Jane made a mark.
In 1841 he is at Gesel, Llanymawddwy, with Jane.
In 1851 he is at Bwlch, Cwm Cewydd, with Jane born c1802 in Dolgelley, farming 74 acres.
In 1861 they are at Maespandy, Llanymawddwy. It says he is a freeholder farmer and so may just have been renting before.
In 1871, they are still there, with niece, Mary Jones. Henry Williams is at Penybryn, two records later.
In 1881 Jane is a widow at Maespandy.
Lewis died on 22nd Feb 1879 at Maes y Pandy, Llanymawddwy. It says that administration was to William Morris of Minllyn, Dinas Mawddwy, a legatee. Personal estate under £450
Jane died on 20th March 1888 at Maesypandy. It was proved by Morris Evans of the Post Office, Dinas Mawddwy, grocer and one of the executors. Personal estate £682.
