Yes Griffith Edwards did marry Margaret Jones in 1852, as you said.
They went on to have 9 children one which was my great grandmother Harriet Selina.
Griffith and family  lived in Rhos Be rs Road from 1861 to1881,
then  stable row and then LLidert cottage

I to can only find Griffith working for the Edwards family in1851 I can trace Griffith to his death.
It is from his birth to 1851 that i can find no trace of him or his parents etc

Except for baptism records for st Mary's church in 1828

Hi Sorry to but in BUT I have just learnt that a Jane Griffiths died at Peny Bryn in 1813, Mary Griffith in 1840 and a Robert Griffiths in 1845. They are perhaps some of my family - the Richard & Jane Griffiths family.
Can you tell me where there are other Peny Bryn's in the C. of Merionethshire?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Catherine

There are two burials in Llanymawddwy in 1813 with an abode of Bryn (presumably Pen y Bryn):-

Jane Griffith (no 's') on 4th September and John Edwards on 1st November.

The following are different years from the ones you mention:-

Robert Griffith of Penybryn, Llanymowddwy (Llanymawddwy), was buried on 30th March 1846, age 87.

Mary Griffith of Penybryn, Llanymowddwy (Llanymawddwy), was buried on 16th April 1849, age 82.

Also found -
Robert Griffith of Penybryn - buried 20th April 1850, age 55.

I knew of someone who lived at a Pen y Bryn near Dolgellau but I am not sure if it was the same one or if there is any link.

Regards,
David

Just checked again and there are several Penybryn or Pen y Bryns in the area.

There are several wills for the one in Llanymawddwy. Some are earlier for Jones or Thomas.

However, one is for Robert Griffith, dated 1850 but written in 1847. He mentions a brother, Lewis Griffith, of Bwlch Cwm Cewydd, his mother, Mary Griffith of Penybryn, his sister, Anne Evans.

The witnesses are ?? Richards, John Jones and Ellis Jones.

You can find these on http://www.llgc.org.uk/index.php?id=searcharchivaldatabases

Hi David
Thank you so much for that info. I did send for a will for Robert Griffith and am hoping it will shed more light on my research. My 3x grandfather was Evan Richards so maybe there is a connection. I do have a Mary Griffith dau. of Mary Richard & Griffith Jones b. 1753, d. 1834-1844 marying a Robert Griffith. I also have a Mary Griffith b. 1783 dau. of Richard & Jane Griffith.
Again, thank you

Catherine

I just checked my records and found an entry in the 1871 Census
Cwm cewydd, Parish Llanymawddwy, Penybryn
Elizabeth Evans B. abt. 1791, 80 b. Llanymawddwy, Widow
Jane Jones           "        1780, 91               "                  "       of Ag. Lab.
Mary Miles, Head     "     1785, 86               "                  "     Formerly wool
                                                                                                   weaver
I had put "all widows and sisters" - don't know how accurate that is but very interesting.

There are two wills for Bwlch Cwm Cewydd

William Richard in 1827 and Elizabeth Richard in 1794, although I am not sure if there is any link.

I don't seem to have any info on either one of these wills/deaths - however, it is very possible I have missed something - something to look into.
Thanks again,

Catherine

A lot of farms were rented and so families may not be connected. I had a look at the will and also the details for Lewis Griffith. It sounds as though he was renting before buying his own farm of Maes y Pandy (Maesypandy). My family had links to a farm of the same name but it turned out to be a different place.

These are some notes from the will of William Richard, followed by details for Lewis:-

Edward Richard, son and executor of William Richard confirms that he has paid put

John Thomas 1825 - uncle - £20
Elizabeth Thomas 1825 - aunt - £20
Roger 1826 - brother - £60
Richard William 1826 - brother - £60
David William 1827 - nephew (son of Richard) - £10
John Richard 1824 - brother - £80

"by me William Richard in my life time in the purpose to not alter my will"

William Richard buried in Llanymawddwy on 7th March 1827 age 86
Elizabeth Richard buried in Mallwyd on 13th Jan 1794

Lewis Griffith son of Robert Griffith and Mary baptised 29th Feb 1796 in Llanymawddwy

He married Jane Jones in Mallwyd on 20th April 1826. Witnesses - Robert Griffith and Lewis Jones, both of whom signed their own names. Lewis and Jane made a mark.

In 1841 he is at Gesel, Llanymawddwy, with Jane.
In 1851 he is at Bwlch, Cwm Cewydd, with Jane born c1802 in Dolgelley, farming 74 acres.
In 1861 they are at Maespandy, Llanymawddwy. It says he is a freeholder farmer and so may just have been renting before.
In 1871, they are still there, with niece, Mary Jones. Henry Williams is at Penybryn, two records later.
In 1881 Jane is a widow at Maespandy.

Lewis died on 22nd Feb 1879 at Maes y Pandy, Llanymawddwy. It says that administration was to William Morris of Minllyn, Dinas Mawddwy, a legatee. Personal estate under £450

Jane died on 20th March 1888 at Maesypandy. It was proved by Morris Evans of the Post Office, Dinas Mawddwy, grocer and one of the executors. Personal estate £682.
