Hi

Not sure if it helps but his Certificate of Freedom states that his Native Place was Leeds Yorkshire.

On the IGI at FamilySearch.com there is a William Webster who was christened on 25 December 1819 in Leeds, with parents Joseph and Elizabeth Webster.

There are others that are possibilities but this was the only Leeds one that came up.

Good luck!

Could a kind Roots chatter please decipher the record for

William Webster, age 13 transferred on 17th November 1831, to the prison ship Euryalus, moored at Chatham, he stayed on this hulk until April 1833

I am having trouble deciphering his crime, (along with Robert Pickering?)  and the ship on which he was sent to NSW.

Robert was 'disposed of earlier' to Australia, does this mean that there was a policy of separating prisoners in the same crime to differing destinations?

From the conviction in Leeds the two boys were convicted of 'Larceny before convicted felony'  - does this mean that they are repeat offenders?

Is it an Ancestry record you're looking at? If so I'm having trouble finding it - could you post a link?

Hi

What set of records are you looking at in the card catalogue?  Sorry if I seem dense - I just can't find what you're looking at.  Is it the Criminal Registers?  Or some sort of travel records?

I can't find anything in the card catalogue called Home Office: Convict Prison Hulks etc.

How did you find him?  What search category did you use?  I'd be happy to have a look at the writing, if only I could find it!!!
