Place name - Milcommoss, Melcommoss??
« on: Tuesday 17 July 12 12:35 BST (UK) »
I posted in the deciphering and regognition help asking where Symeon Helliday was from in the attachment i posted. The best answers were Milcommoss or Melcommoss or possibly Milcamos/Milkamos/Milkimoss?

Has anyone come across this place before?

Karl, near Lockerbie on the Water of Milk, is Milk Bridge, Castlemilktown, Castlemilk &  Mosshead. So a Milkmoss there, long reclaimed, wouldn't be unusual.

Skoosh.

Hi Karl

There are many spellings for this place.  It is just about 100 yards from Poldean farm, about 3 miles south of Moffat.  It was part of poldean when it was Johnstone owned, as it was for many yaers.
