Do you have any clues as to where this 1860 marriage took place ?

If the families were RC then it was just before the start of registration of their marriages, so there will only be a parish record. RC marriage records for this timeframe usually dont include details of the fathers.

If the family were non-Catholic then there should be a cvil marriage which included standarized details from 1845 - see :

Details included on a Marriage Cert

and

   Introduction to Irish Records

I had a search for possible civil marriages in extracted and BMD index records, around 1860 and didn't see any likely matches. Did the medical record mentioned above show any details that could help the search in Ireland ? e.g. when William qualified, where he trained and practiced etc..

Do you have death certs for William and Sarah Jane ?

Hi Shane

The medical records states he was registered on  Nov 13 1865 and his residence was Coleraine Londenderry, he qualified in Edinburgh as a Phys and Surg, so I am thinking he may have been born in Scotland???

he is listed in the Medical directory in Thom's 1868 as :

Wm. Keys Farrelle, L.R.C.P. & S. Edin., Coleraine

Directories can be a little out of date by the time they are published, so he could have already left by 1868..

many Irish doctors trained in Edinburgh - a quick look at the section where William is listed, shows about a third of the doctors had studied there.

The college was featured in at least one episode of 'Who Do you think you are ?'. I seem to remember them saying it was the best place to train at the time for the medical profession ..

I have checked Rootsireland.ie and I can't see a birth for him or a marriage, you would think with the middle name he would stand out, I wonder if he went to Australia on one of the convict ships, I can't see a emigration record for him???
