Great Grandfather+Mother
« on: Friday 20 July 12 10:19 BST (UK) »
Back again, with another problem, I ordered my grandmother's birth certificate hoping her parents age would be on it so I could work out roughly their birth year.. but no age!! Stuck. Looked at the census, but as yet I'm stuck. Can't seem to find Ferryside on the census!!

I'm looking for John Evans Davies which was a farmer and Mary Davies (formerly Thomas). They lived at Roberts Rest Farm or Farmhouse Ferryside.

Any help again would be great!
Thanks very very much in advance.

I see on an address search that Roberts Rest Ferryside is in St Ishmael so I think I might have found their marriage -

St Ishmael
11 May 1920
John Evans Davies (aged 33)  and Mary Thomas (aged 34)

John was down as a widower and farmer on the entry.

I'll leave you to work out their approx years of birth  ;)

PS - what census are you looking for as they are unlikely to be there on the latest one in 1911  :-\

If you think that that is the correct marriage, the GRO ref is:

Jun q, 1920, Carmarthen, vol 11a p 3161

Names indexed as  John E Davies and Mary Thomas

Mary's father is recorded as David Thomas, so it looks a strong possibility. Maybe Mary was away, either working or visiting in 1901.

I have later found out that John was a widower when he married Mary, as I discovered, as I found out where he's been buried. Thanks very much!!

In 1901 census all the children are living at home, but in 1911 census all the children have moved out.. is there a way I can find out where??

It's very tricky after 1911 but you could start with that census and do searches for each of them - with females they might have married so you'll have to check for this.

I've found that obituaries in local newspapers are a good source for locating the wider kin group. Do you know when the parents died?
