Calder family of Chesterfield
« on: Sunday 22 July 12 01:23 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm researching my husband's family - one branch descends from two families who lived in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in the 19th century:

My husband's great great grandparents were Lucy Shipton and William Calder who married in New Zealand in 1876 - both came from Chesterfield.

William was the son of Rev Frederick Calder, Headmaster of the Grammar School in Chesterfield and Jane Appleyard.  I'm interested in Frederick and Jane's families and also in William's siblings and their families - Frederick, who was a solicitor and Janet as well as at least two other siblings.  One brother, Charles Montague Calder, I am already aware of - he also emigrated to New Zealand and worked as a solicitor in Auckland, NZ.

William Calder was also a Minister, as was his son and grandson - apparently there were eight generations of clergymen, so there would have been several prior to Rev Frederick Calder.

Can anyone assist at all with information on the Calder family in Chesterfield?  Also, if anyone is interested in the New Zealand branch of the family - I am more than happy to share what happened to them here.

Thanks in advance.

Pip

Wow, that was quick.  Thank you SO much!  I really don't have much of ANYTHING about this family prior to the branches coming to New Zealand, so that is just a fantastic start!   :)
