Wow, just going through everything you've looked up for me (I can't thank you enough) and am just blown away.  Along with the longstanding family history about there being about eight generations of clergymen in the family, the story was always given about there being one clergyman who was pulled from his coach and murdered.  A family historian recently speculated that this was Rev James Sharp - Archbishop of St Andrews - and so finding the possible baptism of Frederick Calder, with his mother's maiden name being "Sharp" is certainly intriguing!! :)

Oh, and yes, you are definitely right - Frederick did remarry after Jane's death - to Selina England.

I did a bit of Googling about James SHARP and he died 1679 in Scotland so might be drawing a bit of a long bow with that one... ;D ;D

Maria appears to have been from Bedfordshire.

Yeah, James Sharp was a long way back, but my husband's grandfather (the last in the line of clergyman) apparently passed on the story of this particular clergyman being a direct ancestor and got it from his father who got it from his father... blah blah... might take some work to ever prove or disprove!!!  Nevertheless, this side is pretty interesting - you've really given me some great information, and I really appreciate it! :D
