*** COMPLETE *** Cork / Kilkenny prison records for 1920
« on: Friday 03 August 12 11:10 BST (UK) »
Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know where I might access the Cork and/or Kilkenny prison records for 1920?

That is, apart from familysearch.org? (who do have the record I'm looking for but I cannot view!)  :)

Many Thanks,
SuasAnAbhainn.

Thanks for that shanew147......

However, I suspect FindMyPast show records from the Courts as distinct from the Prisons.

The records I'm looking for relate to persons sentenced by the Military Courts during the War of Independence - I don't think FindMyPast show such records.

I'm reluctant to signup to yet another site such as Familysearch - even though they seem to have the record I want  :) :)

Does anyone here have any experience of /thoughts on Familysearch?

Regards,
SuasAnAbhainn.

The records are referred to as Prison registers on both FamilySearch and FindMyPast, but would relate to proceedings that took place in civil courts. The prisons included are mentioned on a resource topic - see :

  Irish Prison Records now online

I dont think proceedings from Military courts would be included in the same records.

Familysearch (www.familysearch.org) is a free site so you won't need to pay to look at the database images once you register.

This looks like the section you are interested in viewing-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I think you need to be in a FamilySearch centre to view the images.

Hello again,

Investigated this a bit further.

It seems the records from FamilySearch are made available via project collaboration with FindMyPast.

FindMyPast in fact do have the records I wanted - I just needed to use more specific search criteria to find them - and of course, will also have pay  ;)

Appreciate all the replies.
