If you have John Evans Davies marriage certificate, does it not give a witness as Joseph Lewis Davies?
I think this is his brother born 1900,making them sons(among many other siblings) of Edward and Eleanor(probably nee Evans, married 4th quarter 1882 Newcastle in Emlyn registration district). They can be found at

1891  4553  88 8
John Evan(sic) is given as born 1887 Trefilan, which looks to be very close to Cilcennin.Edward, his father is given as born 1860,so would be 60 at the time of the wedding.

1901  5148  75  4
While Edward is described as "collier" here,it is surely the same family and he reverts to being described as "farmer" together with Joseph Lewis Davies being fully identified"in a later census"

Roger

Is does give Joseph.. to be honest I can't read the middle name very well and thought it could be Evans Davies but you are probably right.

Without other corroborative/original/certificated data, the following is speculative, but, based on age, profession and geography the strongest candidate for Edward Davies' family looks to be

James and Anne Davies of Cefngwallter,Llandyssil(Llandysul?)
1881  5434  101  5
1871  5548  55  4
1861  4184  93   5

with James(born circa 1827) in turn being the son of
James(circa 1781) and Margaret(circa 1783) Davies of Bryngranod,Llanwenog

1851  2483  279   15
1841  1375  31/41  11
