"No P.M." on death certificate?
« on: Wednesday 08 August 12 17:01 BST (UK) »
I've received my great-great-grandfather's death certificate from the GRO today and can read the cause of death just fine (Shock and Uraemia + Enlarged Prostate operation) but there is a note underneath saying "No P.M." which I don't understand. Has anyone else come across this at all?

Here is a scan of the statement in context:
WARRINER and variants (Lincolnshire, East Nottinghamshire)
CAMPBELL (Lincolnshire)
EAST (Lincolnshire)
PENDLEBURY (Lancashire, Berkshire)

Freckneale is correct.

I've seen this on several certificates, it just seems to be something that some doctors did (ie. I wouldn't read anything suspicious into it, it's just a statement of fact, the doctor may have known the person and the nature of their illness over a period of time leading up to their death).

They may have had to ring the coroner if it was within 24 hours of admission when she died if in hospital but because of the known history and especially if had been seen by a doctor recently, the coroner may have given permission to issue the cert.
