Hi sancti,

Thanks again. :)

I've been looking into this afternoon. I think I must have the right house as it would match pretty well with the maps and census info.

Just had another look at Helen's will again, Laurel Villa is listed as different place but would appear to be close by as it's mentioned as Kirkfield.

Thanks again Jimmy.

It would confirm what I've found above. :)

Hi,
Attached is photo of the house as it is today, The main house has been divided into 3 or 4 apartments and there has been an extension built to the left hand side again with apartments.
If you give me your ancestor's name I'll see if there is anything else I can find out locally.

Would you mind if the Bothwell Historical Society used your photo of the house on their information screen in Bothwell Library as part of their photo collection of Old Bothwell?
Bill

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your post and the photograph. I did come to the conclusion that the buildings were the same, with the exception of some features that have obviously been removed over the years. Any idea on the original name etc?

My ancestor was Thomas Herbertson. The earliest year I have for him in Bothwell is 1843, where (I assume) he stayed up to his death in 1865.

I don't have permission for the original photograph to be posted elsewhere but I will contact my relative and ask.

Thanks again
hume :)
