It's India.  Probably to do with the Army.  Check out IGI.

Hello,
I have looked on the IGI and found nothing with the name i am looking for.
The names are Maria or Meriah Mobberley fathers name William Mobberley.
Maria was born in about 1819 i think she married John Knowles in 1843 in Old Swinford Church Worcestershire.
Thank you for telling me it was India.

www.nationalarchives.gov.uk has:

WO 97/519/18
Covering dates     1799-1821
Scope and content
WILLIAM MOBLEY
Born STOURBRIDGE, Worcestershire
Served in 34th Foot Regiment
Discharged aged 34
Access conditions    Normal Closure before FOI Act: 30 years
Closure status    Open Document, Open Description
Held by    The National Archives, Kew
Restrictions on use

The 34th Regiment of Foot, 1st Batallion, were in India in 1819 -

http://www.regiments.org/deploy/uk/reg-inf/034-1.htm

This seems a possibility.  However, www.1837online.com's overseas regimental birth indexes (available on free trial, just put in 1870 but for these records all years are on the same page) shows some Mobberlay/Mobberly children b. to somebody in the 53rd Regiment, which was in India in 1819 as well:

http://www.regiments.org/deploy/uk/reg-inf/053-1.htm

The children were:
Mobberlay, John R,  1828, Golden (53rd)  vol 18 page 10
Moberly,  Susanna M, 1832, Stockport, vol 18 page 6
Moberlay,  Susanna, 1832, Stockport, vol 18 page 11
(there are often more than one entry for the same person)
also
Mobley, Elisabeth, 1825, Devizes, 53rd (vol 17 page 8)

Of course, it is also possible that her father was not a soldier but a merchant, in the civil services, etc.  On the marriage certificate, does it give his occupation?

Hello jorose,
Thank you so much for the information.
I have a copy of Marias marriage certificate and it says that her father Williams occupation was Nailor. She was married in 1843 at Oldswinford Church Worcestershire.
I have a copy of the 1841 census, they were living in Waste Bank, Lye. Worcestershire
William Mobberley 60 Nailor
Eleanor  "        "     50
Maria      "        "     20
Thomas   "       "     18
Edward    "       "     16
Eleanor    "       "      14
joseph     "        "       8
Elijah       "        "      4
Cabel       "        "      1
It says Eleanor and Maria were both Foriegners.
Once again thank you

Hmmm, and Elijah, Edward/Edwin, Joseph, and Thomas all appear to be christened at Old Swinford, Worcester.

Wait, the Eleanor who was a foreigner, was it Junior or Senior?

You might want to check later censuses to find the exact birthplaces of everybody - especially Eleanor, whichever one it was.  Then you could match those with the places that the regiments were in.

Hello Kaye,

I thought you would like to know about the British East India Company - the Company (which was granted a royal Charter in 1600) transformed from a commercial trading venture to one which virtually ruled India as it acquired auxiliary governmental and military functions, until the Company's dissolution
in 1858
