The passenger list says that he was a weaver who last lived in Yorkshire and was going to Massachusetts.

This may be a long shot, but there is a Massachusetts death record for a William H. Mellor of about the right age -
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11596-80946-94?cc=1463156

I see an 1895 Boston passenger list for a William H. Mellor, age 40, married, machinist, going to New Bedford, Mass., and it says he had been in New Bedford before.  There is a possible date when he was there previously, but I can't really read it.

His occupation made me think he could be my guy.

In 1881 he was 23 years old and a carder in a worsted mill.

I see what you mean about the death certificate.  I wonder if it is him?

There are no parents or wife listed to help me figure out if it is him and it doesn't explain why he's not on the UK 1891 census ???

Why would he have been missed off that one?

I'll check out the other passenger list and the cemetery where this William is buried.

Joseph Mellor who was travelling with William says he is his brother-in-law.

William Henry only had one sister, Selina who lived into adulthood.  She married Walter Grange in Huddersfield about 1894.

I have found another William H Mellor on an ancestry passenger list.

This one says that he was 34, born about 1856 in England and travelled to Boston on 2 July 1890.

He was a labourer but doesn't say whether he was single or married.

Looked at both of these records again this morning.

Either one could be him ???

Couldn't find any details of the cemetery online either.

I think I have found three men now with different dates, any of them could be my guy.

Have you sorted out which is your correct William Henry Mellor born Scarborough 6 Aug 1858.

Notice that his father on the 1871 census was a Mariner, does this have any bearing on the missing men.Have I found the right family 1871.William H Mellor 46,b Scarborough
Jane 39 born Windsor.William H, 12,John 4 [at Castlegate Scar]

Did William Henry Jnr perhaps become a Morman.        Just a thought,Brionne.
