Wish you every luck with these more recent searches, Minnie  :)

The marriage from 1976 in Denny will hopefully begin to point you in the right direction. Gets so much easier in most cases the further back you go....

Afraid not minnie.

His service record doesn't mention a wife, only siblings it's presumed he had never married.

If he was, there must have been a good reason for him not to mention his wife and any children!

I think once you download some registrations (births, marriages or deaths), you'll get on much better. At least you'll be able to confirm parents etc.

As we're really not getting anywhere fast, I downloaded the birth for Alice Heenan, the eldest child of Laurence & Margaret (Laurence's big sister) for you. I looked for Laurence but couldn't find him easily.

The details are:

Alice Heenan, born 30th September 1870 at Denny
Parents: Laurence Heenan and Margaret Heenan m.s. CURRENS, who married at Denny on 22nd October 1869
Father Laurence registered his daughter's birth and marked his name with an 'X'.

If you send me a PM with your personal e-mail address, I'll forward a copy.

Anne

P.S. I think you might have to consider using wildcards in any searches on SP. The 'H' for Heenan on Alice's cert could very easily be mistaken for a 'K' (Keenan)

OK ..... 1911 Census - Lawrence Senior & Junior are listed as HANNAY!

Living at 198 Broad Street Denny:

Maggie McNally, daughter, age 16, born Denny, Stirlingshire
Patrick McNally, son age 14, Pithead Worker in Colliery, born Denny, Stirlingshire
Lawrence McNally, son, age 12, Scholar, born Denny, Stirlingshire
Thomas McNally, son age 10, Scholar, born Denny, Stirlingshire
Anne McNally, daughter, age 8, Scholar, born Denny, Stirlingshire

Laurence HANNAY, Father-in-law, age 64, Coalminer Hewer, born Ireland
Laurence HANNAY, Brother-in-law, age 28, Coalminer Hewer, born Broxburn, Linlithgowshire

Laurence would have to have married between 1911 - 1915 and I can't find ANY marriages using any of the variants I can think between these years.

Does this mean that this Laurence/Lawrence is NOT the one you're looking for?  :-\

I found the birth of a Lawrence HANNAN?

Born 19th April 1882 at 63 Haligate (?), Uphall, Broxburn
Parents Patrick Hannan, Labourer and Margaret Hannan m.s. McMillan
(Who married 7th November 1877 at Liff & Bervie)

There are 3 Lawrence Heenans (using Traditional Soundex for surname) born between 1880 - 1890 and the reason I went for the Broxburn birth was that Broxburn is listed as his place of birth on a couple of the census returns.

The other two - one was born at Partick, Glasgow in 1888, the other in Renfrew in 1881.
