Any chance of the Gisborne papers from the 1870s being added at some stage. love to be be able to see  reports of the unfortunate horse and cart accident in March 1878 that led to the untimely death of Thomas Viner Crundwell

Love PapersPast, an invaluable resource for family historians,

Hi Don, sorry for the delay - always a chance! I'll record that in our register as a request for "Gisborne papers, post-1870".

Thanks -  you are providing a magnificent resource for Family Historians like myself. It is a pity that the character recognition system that is used by Australia's Trove is not as good as yours. You should teach them a thing or three about the NZ systems.

Many of their transcripts are just unreadable

Thanks Don! In defence of Trove, the issue is the quality of the underlying microfilm, which isn't something the digitisation process can sway. I don't know anything about the nuances of the selection process for content used in Trove, but I can tell you that when we have an even selection choice between two titles, one with good microfilm and one a bit rougher but otherwise comparable, we'll opt for the better-quality source. The trove team might have a slightly better budget, so if they get faced with the same choice they might just do both of them :-)

Sorry, I meant that the issue is *mainly* to do with the quality of the microfilm. The OCR algorhythm used will vary things a little bit too.

Hi folks! We're putting our next batch online at this time tomorrow, there's going to be quite a few titles in it because we've built up a bit of a backlog over the last 6-8 months.
It will contain:

Alexandra Herald and Central Otago Gazette (1902-1948)
    Hawke's Bay Herald (July-December 1894, 1901-1904)
Samoa Times and South Sea Advertiser (1888-1896)
Samoa Times and South Sea Gazette (1877-1881)
    Samoa Weekly Herald (1892-1900)
    Samoanische Zeitung (1903-1920)
    Sun (1916-1920)
    Thames Advertiser (April 1897-March 1898)
    Waikato Times (July-December 1887)
    Wairarapa Standard (1867-1887)
    Wanganui Herald (1910-1920)
    West Coast Times (September-December 1878, 1910-1916)

Enjoy!
