...I would like to note three recent discoveries made on Papers Past which have advanced the knowledge of my family....
Wow, good digging there Spades! This is great to hear, thanks for the kind words, and thanks so much for all your support over the years.
Spudkiwi and SuzyW, regarding photographs:
The scans of the pages reproduce the newsprint quality so the images are variable, often ranging from adequate to poor. You may be able to get a reproduction from an original image or even a negative, depending on the paper and the image. I would suggest getting in touch with the publisher in the case of titles that went to Fairfax, NZME (formerly known as APN), or Allied Press. For Fairfax images, cross your fingers that they didn't get lost in the recent Rogers' Archives incident - though note that the National Library has a large archive of Evening Post photographic images, so you might be covered on that front.
NZ Herald and ODT stuff should be relatively accessible too, get in touch with NZME or Allied Press respectively and they'll help you out.
With other papers, it can be quite case-by-case. Seeing if the title still exists and giving the publisher a call is the best first step.
If the image on PP is the only remaining copy, then you might do slightly better by grabbing the high-res .png download of the page the image is on, and cropping the image out. You can then scale it down, at which point it might actually look much better.
