The only possible death between 1871-81 in Ayrshire for an Andrew Robertson shows in Galston in 1870 (born c. 1833). Have you discounted that one?

He may not have died in Ayrshire which makes you search much harder  :-\

Were there any marriages in the 1870s for the children of Andrew and Elizabeth Cavins/Sarah Saunders that could help you narrow down possible years for his death (with the marriage certs showing father Andrew as alive or deceased)?

Good thinkin!

Just started to search. He is still alive when Sarah and Andrew's eldest daughter Jeanie marries a Quinton Paton in 1874...

His son Andrew is still at home on the 1881 census, so he won't be married. Going to try Mary next.

ok Still trying to narrow down Mary's marriage. But his son Andrew married and died in 1899.
His father is listed as deceased on his death certificate and his mother Sarah Saunders is still alive.
