I have an John Isaac Chilvers marrying a Clara Louisa Coleman in Lowestoft in 1890.  Is that of interest?

Richard Chilvers.

I'm at present stuck on my Family Tree. I'm a South London Liffen, and I've got as far back as my Grandfather.Sadly, I've lost my father now but a few years ago when i mentioned that the Liffen name was common in Norfolk (we have a holiday home at Hemsby) he commented" All i know is that the Liffens  had to leave Norfolk in a hurry". He had been told that by someone in the family as a child. My Grandfather was born in South London in 1894 so it was before then.I know that sounds very sinister but I've come to a halt on the tree and maybe someone in this thread might be able to offer some advice.I would so very much like to establish some roots in Norfolk if possible.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hello South London Liffen welcome to Rootschat Suffolk

FreeBMD records the birth of a Frederick William LIFFEN in the Greenwich Registration District Jul/Aug/Sep Qtr 1894 Ref:  1d/1003

Also a James LIFFEN Sep Qtr 1894 St Olave (Southwark) Ref: 1d 2_8

Are either of these him?   If so a look at the 1901 CR might reveal his parents if not a copy of the birth certificate will give you a lot of info, inc his mothers maiden name.

If this is not him what was his name?

K

ps. Free BMD also records a birth of a Frederick William LIFFEN in Greenwich RD in 1875.  Lots of LIFFEN's around Yarmouth, Norfolk area.

hi all
just been looking at newspaper arcives on FindMyPast and the name of LIFFEN crops up a lot not only for Norfolk but Suffolk and Essex as well seems some liffens were fishermen at Lowestoft as well as the nefarious liffens in all 3 counties as well as some good law abiding folk as well .

You need to give us some specifics.   How far back have you got, where have you become stuck?
