Looking for Tunney antecedents in County Mayo
« on: Sunday 02 September 12 14:51 BST (UK) »
I have gone back as far as this:

"James Tunney, B 1826 Mayo, Ireland, d. ,1912 Co Durham
m. Mary Murphy, B 1831, Mayo, Ireland, d. 1903, Durham"

Can you go back further than this - we know that Mary's Mother was Bridget but are looking for James' parents.

Uncle H

Hello,

do you have James father's name from the marriage certificate?

You would need further information to trace back in Mayo.

There are some tips here:

My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?

 Hi UncleHefty,

Landed Estate Court Rentals 1850-1885 indicate a Anthony Tunney(decd) and Michael Tunney(decd) hold lands under lease from G Browne to J Shannon dated 29 May 1807 for three lives, in Treenabantry and Treenrevough,Bohola Parish,Mayo.

Limitations of Bohola Parish records http://www.rootschat.com/links/0r0a/
Various Tunney/Tunny Baptisms and occupied townlands Bohalla Parish

Others, http://www.rootschat.com/links/0r0c/  seem to have confronted this brick wall as well.

Hello I am a long long long distant relative of gene tunney quite a few generations from the nixon side not quite sure how though
There's lots to be found online about Gene Tunney but to find a family connection you need to trace his father's family back to Ireland and see if you can find the relationship to your ancestors.

Genes Parents were John Tunney and Mary Tunney Gene tunney and Josephine "polly"  lauder tunney had 4 children
Gene's mother was a Mary Lydon and parents were married in New York. Polly Lauder's name was Mary Josephine. We aren't allowed to post details of living people and as far as I know all the Tunney children are probably still alive so you'll need to remove their details from the previous post.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
