Hi Cazza

Have you checked to see if Thomas W Bontoft and Jonathon Bontoft were related, Bontoft is not common name.

Might it be that he died post 2005 and wouldn't appear in the online bmd records?

Thank you all for your help. I think I had better cancel this search on this site just in case the Michael Bontoft I am looking for is alive.
Marj I will look into the possibility of them being related but better continue this search on my own.

Thank You.

Surnames of England and Wales site shows 422 Bontofts in 2002. Having said this, and being well used to researching surnames of this frequency I believe that most Bontofts are in fact in Lincolnshire, so it would not be classed as an unusual name in Lincolnshire.

Thanks to some amazing help from MargP we have found Michael J Bontoft.
His birth certificate told us that his father was indeed John Bontoft and his mother was Nellie Hall formerly Dawson, his birth details come up as both Hall and Bontoft but when he married he was Michael J Hall.
Sadly we found he has died in 1997 in lincoln as Michael J Hall.
His mother Nellie Dawson married Allan Hall in 1928 in Horncastle, he died in Horncastle in 1943.
Nellie died in 1956 and is buried at Thimbleby.

Thanks for all help given but especially to margP.
