Hi, not sure if I'm putting this message in the right place ???
my grandfather spent his early years in West Cornforth, he was born in Slake Street in 1910 /11
His name was Thomas Robert March he had one brother and I think his mother was called Lily Lavinia(but I could be wrong).
I am just wondering if anybody knows anything about them while they were in West Cornforth.
Thanks
Liz

Hello Liz,

Sorry I do not know of them whilst carrying out research on Cornforth.  Though they would have lived in Windsor Terrace to the rear of the Slake Terrace Public house.  The Terrace and Public House are still thee today.

On the 1911 census it shows his parents George March (born 1889 West Cornforth) and his wife Lily Lavinia Brabban (Born 1892 Coundon Grange) living with her parents John Thomas Brabban (born 1866 Coundon/Auckland Park) and Grace Race (born 8 July 1865 Shildon).

Am I correct in saying Lily past away 1952?  Unsure what you have traced today.  Please contact me if you wish further information.

Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks for that information. My mam says her grandmother did pass away around 1952.
If at any point during your own research you stumble across any information or photos  of the March family I'd love to know about them.

Thanks again
Liz

Hi Andy,

I am currently researching Ralph Mitton who was from West Cornforth and is ( I think) a relative. There are loads of us Mittons in West Cornforth. Interestingly, he died on the first day of the Somme near Peronne but is not listed on the war memorial. He served in the Yorkshire regt. Have you come across anything associated with him?
BTW I am also the grandson of Harry Mitton who was captain of the Bishops in 1935 when they won the FA amateur cup  and have a fab scrap book that was compiled by his wife.
Regards
John Mitton

Hi John,

Sorry I am unsure as I have had the Mitton story told to me previously about the Bishop Auckland connection.

I have found information relating Ralph, Harry and also Tommy from WW2.  I have communicated prior with Tommy's daughter.

I will PM you.

Regards

Andy
