Leicestershire burials: Kemp, Robinson
« on: Thursday 13 September 12 09:23 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Does anyone out there have access to the Leicestershire & Rutland Burial Index? I'm trying to find information about KEMP and ROBINSON families. I'm in Australia and not likely to get to a Leicestershire records office anytime soon. I checked our State Library but they only have very limited microfiche for burials.

The KEMP family I'm interested in date from about the 1820s and lived mostly around Syston and in Leicester itself. The ROBINSONs are more recent and also lived in Leicester - I believe the family was originally from Yorkshire.

Any information will be helpful - thanks lots.

Hi Eve,

I like researching for others but find it really hard to research a whole family just
by the surname.
Have you got a starting point of a first name as well and maybe a more specific
date they were born.  Then its easier to find the rest of the family and build
it up from there.
Alot of the old information states Leicester but that includes lots of villages as
well so you could be spending hours looking at the wrong people.
There are plenty of Kemps in the Leicester area but which ones are yours?

regards
Sandymc

p.s. example     Elizabeth Kemp born 1819 christened 21/9/1819 died Oct 1819
parents are Charles and Ann   at Syston.
Midgley, Fowler, Chadwick, Kilvington, Routledge, Hewitt, Stevenson, Ward, Waite, Binks , Buck, Pearson,  Stanley, Firth, Child, Hobson, Rogers, all Leeds and Yorkshire for centuaries except the Routledges from Wigton, Cumbria and Middlesbrough. Related to McAllisters of Wilsontown

Thanks for your reply - Elizabeth is one of the Kemps in my family. Her parents were Charles (c1796-1859, death recorded as Charles Sherwin Kemp, may have been born Bath, Somerset) and Ann Webster (c1801-1847).

The  children I know of, apart from Elizabeth, are:
Charles Sherwin Kemp (1821-1898) married Mary King (nee Palmer)
Thomas Kemp (1823-1893) married Mary Dent
William Kemp (b1828)
Mary Kemp (b1831)
Ann Kemp (b1836, single and in the workhouse in 1911)
John Kemp (b1840) married Charlotte Freer

The main Robinson death I'm looking for is George Robinson, died somewhere around 1938, give or take a year or two. Not sure of his age - I've already bought the certificate that was most likely to be him (died March 1938 age 44) but it was the wrong man. I've been told his daughter, born 1934, was four years old or so when he died, so it's a limited time frame, but nobody knows anything else about him that would help.

Thanks again...

Hi saddles, would love to hear from you about the Kemps and Robinsons. As mentioned, I haven't been to Rootschat for a while for various reasons, but things have settled down a bit and it would be good to get back into family history.

Thanks for your message, hope to hear from you soon. I tried replying yesterday but Rootschat was "having a moment". I have quite a few of those myself so I just waited.... and it came good.

Cheers!
