Blyth Family Portrait
« on: Thursday 13 September 12 20:35 BST (UK) »
Hi folks, there is a photo of a family portrait on Ebay at the moment. The picture has an address on the back too. Dated 15 November 1916 with an address of what looks like 39 Grey Street, Blyth. There is supposed to be a family name on the back. I have asked the seller for a scan of the back of the picture, but it doesn't really reveal the name. I had thought it'd be nice to try an get the image back to the family.

On 1911 census, the Davidson family, musicians, lived at 39 Grey St, Blyth

Sometime later Bondicar Terrace was renumbered to gobble up Grey St.

Two of the daughters were then aged 6 and 2 yrs.

Looks as though their menfolk were away at WW1.... the ages of the 1st, 4th and 5th females are not easily guessed, they "could" be all the same age. Or the 4th "could" be the mother..... or elder sister. Difficult.

Sad to see stuff like this on eBay...

Sometime later Bondicar Terrace was renumbered to gobble up Grey St.

On the old maps site, Grey Street ran from Renwick Road to Croft Road in 1897, and from Coomassie Road to Croft Road in 1922. By 1937 it has been gobbled up by Bondicar Terrace.

Just for future reference here is the image. It would be a shame for it to go unrecorded.

It won't go unrecorded, I bought it and will be framing it for display when I can arrange somewhere. (There are plans for the former United Reform Church on Waterloo Road to include  museum dsplays,  failing that the Blyth Town Council offices or the Blyth Library)

It may take a while, but it will go on public display.

Kelly's Trade Directory of Northumberland, 1914 has James Davidson selling musical instruments and teaching music from his unit in Market Place, Waterloo.

( I think this was part of the Central Buildings- facing north)

In a separate listing, in same edition, he is still at Grey Street.
