yes it was a marriage - so i guess that rules that one out
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Hi avm228

Yes, that is the mothers birth and death details.

I find that year out thing happens quite a lot...the day and month are correct but the year is out by one or sometimes more than one year. Can be very confusing when its a common name!

Yes, it's not uncommon at all for the supposed age at death to be wrong. I raised it because you said in the first post of the thread that she had been born in 1908, so I took it you did not have the 1907 birth registration details.

On your other thread you say you do not have details of the location of Unity Hall's 1990 marriage to P.W. (I won't mention the bridegroom's name in full in case he is still living).

The Times announcement of 23 March 1990 says that this marriage took place on 18 March 1990 at the United Nations Chapel in New York.

How far have you traced the family back? I see from earlier censuses there are people with similar surname variants eg Tanzer, Tanzey etc

It could be possible its a corruption of a surname from an older part of the family

I see on the registration of the parents marriage Esther's name is given as Esther Ellen T Barton. Do you know what the T stands for ?

James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. Hi Avm228

Thank you for the information from the Times.

Would you mind telling me where you located the entry as I have been trying to find it.

I found an entry on Ancestry which is only an index to notices from the Times but it doesn't give the location of the marriage.
I tried to find the entry using my library access to the Times but could not find the entry. The website I was using only seemed to have news articles.

Hi davidft

I have traced the family back on the fathers side to the 1700's but not come across anyone with the surname Tanzer or similar.
I have not gone very far with the mothers family as she was the one that married into the family, and as this is not my direct line I don't normally go much further than the parents names for spouses.
