Webb family
« on: Friday 14 September 12 11:47 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for information on James Webb, a carpenter, who was apparently born c. 1796 in Blackwater, Hampshire. He settled in Lampton, Heston, Middlesex with his wife Mary (not born in Middlesex according to 1841 Census) and their children: Eliza (b. c. 1828 not Middlesex), James (b. c. 1833 Lampton), John Hudson (b. 1834, Heston) and Elizabeth (c. 1840, Heston).

I am descended from John Hudson Webb who married Emily Frances Bennett on 24 Dec 1863, Holy Trinity, Hounslow. I don't know if their marriage certificate provides more info on his parents.

Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks :)

The marriage calls him John Webb bachelor full age occupation Carpenter resident Hounslow father James Webb occ Carpenter
Emily Francis Bennett spinster full age resident Hounslow father George Bennett labourer
witnesses - Francis Juett and Mary Ann Bennett
He signs his name as John Webb, Emily signs her full name.

The 1841 census in Lampton also has a Thomas Webb age 70 living with them, probably James father. Thomas is of Independent means and born in County.

Well, I recently found some more information on this family which I hope will help shed some light on this dark corner of my tree ;)

James Webb (1793, Hampshire - 1851, London) was married to Mary Grover (1796, Heston - bef 1851). They had 8 children: Mary Ann (1816), Jane (1826), Eliza (1828), Anna (1831), James (1833), John (1834-1903), George (1835) and Elizabeth (1840).
John Hudson Webb = John William Webb (apparently...)

So now I'm looking for the marriage between James Webb and Mary Grover - and any other info on the Webb family - as well as Mary's birth/christening info.

Thanks :)

I hope you haven't got this from an online tree  ;)  The marriage to Mary Grover that they seem to be quoting is in 1841 Sussex   ::)   ;D

I wonder if Mary's surname is Freeman - there is a marriage in Hayes between a James Webb and Mary Freeman botp after banns with consent of the parents 25th June 1815.

Could this be Elizabeths birth registration

It may be her that died  ::)

Hmmm

I don't see where the Hudson or William middle names come from.

In words on one syllable, would you explain?  ;D

Thanks

I had another look at this census - Thomas could be Thomas Wells but is it too much of a coincidence  :-\    H0107/658 Bk 2 Fol 8 Pg 10

Ray, please ignore the 'Hudson' - it was a remnant of my earlier research when I thought John Webb was married to Emily Burgess and not Emily Bennett...quite the confusion.

As to the 'Grover', Rosie, it was a new avenue to explore as there are so many James and Mary Webb's... According to the 1841 census Mary was born abt 1796 but not in Middlesex. She had died prior to the 1851 census which lends credence to the 1846 burial...

I had thought that this marriage had potential:
groom's name:   James Webb
bride's name:   Mary Ann Handcock
marriage date:   07 Jun 1821
marriage place:   Romsey, Hampshire, England
indexing project (batch) number:   I03680-7
system origin:   England-EASy
source film number:   1596320

But it's all guesswork so far...
