Hello Mick,

You haven't mentioned an approximate year of birth. Family Search has this baptism for a Graham Smith. Mother's name not quite right and neither is place.  :-\
There are several other children also.

There are further details of that baptism at http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html

Additionally, Family Search has a James George Smyth, Sligo with parents James and Annie Graham. :-\

So - when was he born? Have you found any possible siblings? Do you have any occupations for his father?

regards

Thanks & G'day Heywood,

Graham's year of birth is approximate 1870/1871, no known siblings and Fathers occupation is Farmer. I haven't located when Graham Smith came to Australia.

This  Graham Smith is in the 1901 and 1911 Ireland census in the same household as his father George Hill Smith

1901

1911

Thank you Mick.

I can see also that you have put the date of birth in the title  ::) I do apologise.

So it's back to the drawing board.

Introduction to Irish Records

My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?

There are a couple of references to a George Smith in Griffiths Valuation

Hi Mick,

Hum.....I could be wrong but I have doubts as to Graham actually being his christian name.

If you look at the 1901 Census in Sligo the name Graham as a christian name only appears 4 times which shows it's rarity.

While the name George Smith has existed in Sligo again it's a  rare'ish' name there.

Do you have an occupation for George and a religion for the family ?

G'day Tara,

George was listed as a Farmer on Graham's marriage certificate, no occupation listed for George on Graham's Death certificate.

Graham's Marriage was in the Methodist Church, Graham's funeral was Church of England.
Graham's occupation was Farm Labourer and Labourer.

Mick

ps It was Graham' bride Emma's 2nd marriage, she had married her 1st husband in the same Church.
They had 3 daughters and one son, he was named George.

Hi again,

the nearest I can see is:

James George Smith Graham  1872 Sligo  volume 12  page 337

He would possibly fit with the baptism I mentioned earlier-  parents James Smyth and Annie Graham - other siblings can be found on FS.

James Smyth and Annie Graham married 1869 Sligo 1869  volume 17  page   369

You can order records here: http://www.groireland.ie/

There are possibilities on Irish census though for Smith/Smyth :-\

Hello bikermickau
My grandfather was Graham Smith (born about 1871)from Sligo who married Emma Farmi from Finland.
They had 4 children Eva Irene, Elsie May, Ivy Aileen and George Henry.
Graham's parents were George Smith and Ellen (Fanny Graham.
Emma married an Adolf Lundan from Finland  on 16/6/1906 and they had
2 children Imbi (born 13/8/1906) and Arvo (born 4/6/1908).
Emma married Graham 3/11/1909 in Nambour.
Graham died at age 49 on a train between Mooloolah and Landsborough on 27/9/1920.
He is buried at the Old Nambour Cemetery.
I believe Graham emigrated to australia about 1886 at the age of 15.
George Henry was in the Army and went to PNG during WW2. Have been trying
unsuccessfully to track his post war movements.
Are you Eva or Ivy's grandson?
Cheers irishkate

G'day irishkate,

Thanks for replying, I'm a grandson of Eva's, I'm sparrow's eldest son.
I have both of Emma's Marriage certificates, also her's and Graham's death certificates.

I used to stay weekends once a month with Eva in the late 70's, she believed at that time that George Henry was killed in PNG.
