Thank you Radcliffe for your contribution but with respect I knew when they married.  I'm trying to establish when John was born, from his death registration.
But again thank you for your input.

Jolyon

Ah, but it's a means to an end. If you order the marriage certificate, you will find out when John was born, as well as lots of other potentially useful information.

My thanks again to all who have contributed but, if I may explain a little more;

I am 'au fait' with what the marriage cert would tell me but I'm acting as a kind of broker for a third party.  Whether the lady in question would be prepared to purchase a copy I don't know, as I've not asked.  Just thought I would try a short-cut first before suggesting it. My thought was that 'if' grandpa died 2006/7 it should be easy to identify his birth from this record.

To recap what I know: The couple married in 1943 and the records indicate he was John, not Jonathan as my informant thought, and they started a family almost immediately. (I'm given to understand grandma was born 1922 by the way).

Regards

Jolyon

Thank you Radcliff but Jonathan b.1913 is one of several possibles.  A view of the death entry would state the birthday (or at least birth year) to confirm which is correct.

As online sources are only available up to 2006 and we have ruled them out - you would need to contact Lancashire records office to see what sources they have available from 2007 onwards at the RO and what form they take
