Mary Hannah Crowther (nee Shaw)
« on: Friday 27 May 05 15:12 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find any info about a Mary Hannah Shaw who marrie Ben Crowther in 1896.They had two children possibly more Alice born 1905 and John Henry.
They lived for a time on Blackburn Road Birstall.
I wonder if anyone can tell me when and where she was born.
She died and Ben Crowther remarried a Emily Armitage in 1917.

Could anyone tell me how I find out where Mary Crowther could be buried.

Hi emw

Can I ask if you have more info?

Have you indentified the couple on the 1901 census?  Do you have their marriage certificate?  Where were they married?

If you know what age she was when she died, or from her marriage it helps to find her on earlier censuses.  Also any info on Ben, which would help find him on census returns.

Will have a look meanwhile at census returns.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi emw

I believe I have found your wanted Crowther family in the 1901 census living at 55 Blackburn  Road, Birstall in the Parish of St Peters

both the Church and the Road are still in existence today

Ben Crowther aged 25 born Birstall job working with coal not quite sure what it says after coal.

Mary Hannah Crowther 26 born Chidswill believe it to be Chidswell as in Chidswell Soothill near Batley

I only believe it to be that as I have a past rellie who pput he was born there when in fact it was the name of the lane he lived on as a child, enough of that.

and a child

Martha Ellen Crowther aged 4 born Birstall.

On the 1891 living at chidswell Hanging heaton soothill near batley

Harriet Shaw 35 widow born Buckalnd Glouc
Jno Hy Shaw 18 born Chidwell
Mary H Shaw 16 ""
Joseph Shaw 13 ""
J??? Shaw son 6 ""
Arthur Shaw 2 ""

So I went looking for  her in the 1881 and found same place but with her father and co - you'll see what I mean

Mary H Shaw now has stated for her by her birth parents, her real place of birth Soothill and as guessed earlier living on chidswell lane you can check this one for yourself on

www.familysearch.org

A bonus on the '81 as you also have Mary H shaw's grandad on her mums side visiting them.

I did have a look and found the following also

Martha = Mary Hannah Shaw's birth mum's death registered  in september 1881 Dewsbury

James = Mary's  father as seen on the 1881 also, remarried Harriet Hopkins in March 1882

Same James possible death entry in September 1890 Desbury.

Hope that will satisfy - for now??

Wendy

Hi emw

Do you know when Mary H Crowther died?

Or at least where she was living at the time of her death, as it will hopefuly enable someone to maybe find out where she is buried.

Hi
I don't know if you'll see this message as I know it's an old posting.
But, I found an engraved glass, with the words Mary Hannah Crowther 1896.
I found it in a charity shop on the Fylde Coast, near Blackpool.
