Place called "Trichalmon" in Co. Longford?
« on: Tuesday 18 September 12 17:45 BST (UK) »
I came across a reference to a place called Trichalmon in Longford.  I can't figure out where it is supposed to be.  It is mentioned in the Landed Estate Court records on FindMyPast.  Has anyone any suggestions? Thanks.

Is it a place, or could it be referring to the lands of one of the gentry? For example, the Trimlestons owned lands going back some time, though more round Meath / Dublin I believe, but could Trichalmon be a horrendous mistranscription of Trimelston?

Thanks for all the replies.
The estate was that of the Piers family, in the parishes of Clongoish and Killoe.  The people I'm looking at are members of the Charters/Chartres family, tenants in Kelliter and Aughaboy.  One name given is Robert Winslow Chartres of Trichalmon, Longford.  Other place-names in the document seem to be places rather than estates, but I suppose it could be the name of a house or estate.

I'm not very familiar with Longford placenames but I thought perhaps it might be obvious to someone who is.  It's a typed document so there's no illegible hand-writing to interpret. :)

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I found the death notice of a James Charters who died at his residence "Freeholman" in Longford.  According to this Freeholman is in Longford RC parish.
I also found Freehalman on the osi.
According to the map it is in or near Templemichael.
