Mutton Dressed as Lamb !
Richard Langmaid who married Elizabeth Pearce and then Jane Anne Lander has a sister called Matilda Jane Langmaid who marries a John Mutton in 1858 at Liskeard, they have three children Mary Jane Mutton, Laura Mutton and Anna Maria Mutton. What is also interesting is that his other sister Ann Langmaid at the age of 51(Born 1819) is working as a servant for a Richard Mutton widower. She has two children one aged 14 and the other 8. On her death in 1913 she leaves £100 to her daughter Lucy Ann, now the wife of Henty Libby.

So its looking OK up to now, still have to confirm the parents of John Langmaid who was baptised 25 May 1785 at Bogg Mill and married Mary Wymouth Broad in Lanreath on 7 May 1818.  With your perserverance its all starting to untangle a bit and I may be able to repair the broken link!
I presume that it is another lovely day in Australia, its very nice here so taking the Granddaughter up to Bourton-on-the-Water (Cotswolds) for the day. Thanks fo all your assistance to date, been brilliant.

Have a lovely weekend

your best bet to confirm John's father would be to get his 1860 marriage certificate as John should have given name & occupation for his father. I've checked St Veep and Lanreath parish marriages on FamilySearch and it's not there. Lansallos isn't on there for the date required or it could be that it wasn't a parish marriage.

If he is the son of John & Rebecca, then his baptism was 14/7/1794

I agree the 1860 M/C is a must to purchase.

What a coincidence, last night watched a film about Mary Bryant, first woman prisoner to escape from Australia and return back home. She was from Fowey, Cornwall and before marrying Byant was Mary Broad 1765-1794. In my Family Tree I have a John Langmaid married to a Mary Wymouth Broad, I wonder if there may have been a link between the two, althougth the Mary in my FH was born in 1795 I believe. Great film by the way.

Sadly cannot find anything about the parish of Lansallos

You obviously haven't made contact with the Polperro Family History Society which covers the two parishes of Lansallos and Talland that include and surround the village of Polperro.

Not much they don't know about Lansallos...

Hi Graham

Only just seen this post.  I have connections to Polperro which stands between the parishes of Lansallos and Talland.  Although I only have distant connections to the Langmaid family I do have info passed along from others.  As Graylight says, if you havent been in touch with the Polperro FHS then you should (I'm a member) they have so much info.
What I have on 'your' John Langmaid is :
Born c1755 married Rebecca Sweet.
Children : George 1791, John 1794, Rebecca Sweet 1802, Joseph 1804 & Mary 1806
Parents : John Langmaid b c1723 Elizabeth Goard 1725
Siblings : Catherine 1748, Mary 1759, Rebcca 1761(two other Johns b1750 & 1754 both died)
Have various bits on other Langmaids that may or may not be connected to you  :)

I do not feel that John & Elizabeth Nee Goard are the same family line that I am researching. I get the feeling there were the rich Langmaids and the poorer Langmaids and that I am a decendent of the 'Poorer'. My John Langmaid was born 1768 and died 1838, married Mary Thomas on 25 May 1791 and had five children: John,  (born 1795 Boggamill married Mary Wymouth Broad then on 25 January 1860 married Rebecca Best) Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Henry and Catherine. His parents I presume were Henry Langmaid baptised 12 February 1733 at Lansallos, died 23 May 1789 and married Elizabeth Soby on the 4 October 1759. They had seven children. Would be brilliant to find out who Henry's parents were and where from.
Does this make sense? I feel the Rebecca Sweet was the rich Langmaids!!
