Not finding Harold E Avery but there are references to Harry E Avery from detroit who won a few Canadian Championships.  ??? Described in 1900 as a former champion of Canada and now of New York and also Detroit Michigan  ???  Many mentions of him on the fulton site.

Possibly this guy, wasn't with the family in 1900

1880 Census Father - Newell Avery had died in 1877 - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MW3G-5HJ

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MLTD-PHL

FIND A GRAVE

Harry E Avery - Burial: Woodmere Cemetery  Detroit Wayne County Michigan.
Plot: Section F
