Immigrated to USA from Christiansund 1903 on the Heligolay. Naturalized May 30th 1918. Occupation:- Student. Desires the passport to visit the British Isles. (Purpose of attending Oxford University)
Occupation by 1930 was Attorney in Westchester. New York. Married at the age of 26 years to Joyce.

US Passport Application for Harold A Throckmorton. Born Hackensack New Jersey, 17 th October 1897. Student. Fathers name N J Throckmorton. Desires the passport to visit China, Japan aboard the Empress of Russia, November 1916 for the purposes of playing tennis.
Letter attached to this passport from the United States Lawn Tennis Association.

Gentleman,

I hereby confirm that Harold A Throckmorton and George Myers Church are asking for passports to go to Manila, China and Japan with the sole object of playing tennis.

There is also a letter from B M & S R Ogden (Real Estate & Insurance) Elizabeth. New Jersey.

October 31 st 1916

Ella B Throckmorton being duly sworn on her oath says that she resides at No 140 New Jersey Street, Elizabeth, NJ and that she is the mother of Harold A Throckmorton living at the same address and that he was born 17 th Octiber 1897 Hackensack. NJ.

George William Wightman born 17 December 1890 Boston, son of George H Wightman and Flora Ellis Arnold.   George a Harvard tennis player. In 1912 George married Hazel Virginia Hotchkiss (Known as "Queen Mother of American Tennis" - Graduate of the University of California at Berkeley (Hazel born December 20 th 1886 and died December 5 th 1974) The couple had 5 children and were later divorced in 1940

Many thanks for all of that information, which is much appreciated. If I'm not mistaken, Allen H. Behr was a brother of another tennis player, Karl Behr. Quite a lot is known about Karl, partly because he was a Titanic survivor. However, I haven't been able to find anything about Allen.

Karl H Behr was related to Max Behr the well known golfer. Different parents.

Allen was Allen Hawthorne Behr according to his WW1 Draft.
Son of Edward (1856) and Ella R Behr (1863) Married to Aida born  1897 Maine

1930 census described Allen as a tennis instructor
