Joseph McCabe
« on: Wednesday 19 September 12 20:07 BST (UK) »
I would appreciate any information on my GG Grandfather Joseph McCabe if anyone can assist, and what I have is as follows.

He married Emma Elizabeth Field who was born on August 5th, 1860 in Kingwilliams Town, Cape Province, South Africa, so I would assume he would have been born about the same time.

I would guess from his name that he came from Ireland and believe he arrived in South Africa sometime in the mid to late 1800's. I say arrived because I can find no record of his birth in South Africa, plus I found a posting on one of the RootsWeb Forums by a Patrick Hugh McCabe about 5+ years ago trying to find information on his GG Grandfather who went to South Africa in the mid 1800's and married Elizabeth Field. I assume this is the same person and tried to contact Patrick Hugh McCabe at his given E-Mail address which was * but this is no longer valid.

Many Thanks.

Thank you for the reply.

I have information on him from the birth of his first child, and am looking for anything before that.

Cheers.

I am the great granddaughter of Joseph McCabe. My grandmother was Elizabeth Rebecca McCabe, twin of Robert. I would love more information about the family. I believe the Fields were 1820 settlers to South Africa.

Hi Scribe 05,
Yes, I am still researching my great grandfather, Joseph McCabe, who seems to have made a miraculous appearance in the Cape and married Emma Elizabeth Field (born 5/8/1860 in King William's Town) on an unknown date at an unknown place. I have a list of their 12 children (born between 1882 and 1902) and some death certificates for some of the children.
Also contact with my grandmother's great-nephew in Cape Town. My grandmother, Elizabeth Rebecca married Gabriel Olsen (ex Norway) and they lived in Maraisburg, Roodepoort, South Africa. Gabriel also just materialised - no details except his date of death on 28/3/1944.
Any info you could add would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Cookums
