Hi Chris, the records that far back are quite poor but searching 1770 - 1778 i can not see a Mary ball baptism.
there was an Eliz Ball buried april 4th 1778 breedon.

I checked the marriage in case witnesses helped:
Richard Fletched otp & Mary Ball of the same parish were married 19/5/1794/ Richard signed, Mary her mark
wit: George Quarley? (diff to read) & Hannah Johnson

interesting - i have just found that the Leics villages site has transcribed PR's for Breedon.

http://www.leicestershirevillages.com/breedononthehill/availablechurchandburialrecords.html

looking at Baptisms mary isn't there for 1774 but there is:

1787-10-08  BALL Ann Hill  F   mother: Mary
Tonge   Illegitimate

there are a couple of Balls with father Richard at the right time:

1767-07-06  BALL,John M  father: Richard
1775-02-27  BALL,Hannah F  Father::Richard

marriage:
10/8/1755  Richard Ball = Sarah newham

mary Ball is not on the BMD registers (Non conf) online

Hi Diddy,
I am not sure here if there is a link to my Mary,
If the child is hers she seems to be quite young.
The christian name Hannah crops up again, witness at her marriage was Hannah Johnson, maybe sister who had married ?

Thanks for your reply
As you are from the area, would you have any contacts in Griffydam.?
The gravestone I have on Mary is there, I have found a few of my ancestors there  as headstones but have never traced burial records, tried various places, Wigston, locally etc but to no avail.
The Griffydam burial ground is on the property of the Elder Lane Methodist Chapel, but is , and has always been used by all villagers, mine were C of E
Any leads greatly received
