Thanks for the look ups JJ - as it's free to view going to look at the 1911 census again to see if I can find him - there were a few possibilities but pob & birth date don't completely match up so not entirely 100% certain 

From a birth cert. I know he married a Lizzie (Elizabeth) Jones, although I don't know the date.

I do know Lizzie's born c1884 parents were named William Jones & Elin and in 1914 Evan was a repairer in coal mine living in Glamorganshire
