Cavers one-name study
« on: Monday 24 September 12 16:07 BST (UK) »
I've been doing a one-name study of Cavers, researching people bearing this surname, for well over a decade now. I started gathering information for it in the 1980s, but in the late 1990s I put it on a formal footing, registering the study with the Guild of One-Name Studies. The surname originates in Cavers parish, Roxburghshire, and I'm a Cavers descendant.

For more information about the one-name study see

http://www.vivdunstan.co.uk/cavers.html

and

http://www.one-name.org/profiles/cavers.html

The Cavers one-name study now has a regularly updated blog at

https://caversonenamestudy.wordpress.com/

sharing Cavers stories and genealogies, one blog post at a time.

The one-name study continues to gather references to Cavers people from all over the world, with a particular interest in the pre-1900 period. As a result it has been possible to piece together lots of family trees, and share these with modern descendants, and put cousins in touch with each other.

Hi

We have a connection with the Cavers - my gggfather Andrew Keddie married Margaret Cavers in Galashiels in 1875. Her family all migrated to Canada - are you aware of this site all about her family in Canada ?

Sue
Keddie, Hutson - Scottish Borders and Edinburgh
Menzies, Montague - Penicuik and Castle Douglas
McEvoy, Cavanagh - Ireland

Hi Sue,

Thanks. Yes I'm very familiar with that site. I've been in touch over the years with many descendants of Adam Cavers and Janet Clark, descended from lots of their children. If you want me to put you in touch with your many genealogist cousins email me at viv.dunstan@one-name.org

Years ago I may also have been in touch with a relatively close relative of yours, in Wales if I remember correctly. Also descended from the Keddie/Cavers couple. In touch by letter/post.

Best wishes.

Viv

Also not all of Margaret's family emigrated to Canada. Quite a few of her aunts/uncles and/or their children stayed in Scotland. I've been in touch with descendants of all of these lines.
